We are limited to a total of 1,000 runners. Entries are coming in fast and we are expect to be closing before the pre-set deadline of 8 October. So please let us have your entry as soon as possible.

The Dartmoor Vale, Marathon, Half Marathon 10k and Fun Run

The event is being organised by the Women's Running Network and the Rotary Club of Dartmoor Vale. The Marathon hosts the Devon County Championships and the Half Marathon will now play host to the South West Road Running Championships comprising County Teams from Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire.

We hope you have an enjoyable day and that we raise lots of money for Charity!

Words from the Race Director

This will be the seventh year of Dartmoor Vale. We offer four running events - Marathon, Half-Marathon, 10 Kilometre road race and Fun Run, so there is something for everyone.

It is becoming increasingly popular, with almost one third more runners participating last year. With a couple of months still to go, we are expecting another increase to over 1,000 runners. Already, we have a good response for the Marathon as this is the Devon County Championship, so a must for everyone who runs this distance.

Following positive feedback we are keeping the same route as last year which took in more of our beautiful countryside using the quiet country lanes through Gappah and Fosterville. The races start and finish at Newton Abbot Racecourse, which provides all the facilities that we could ask for.

The Fun Run is an entirely safe event, using a tarmac track on the inside of the racecourse. It is suitable for everyone from small child to great grandma. Fancy dress welcome!

Whether you are a serious runner or not, there is race that will suit you. Come along as a family and join in the fun! Better still, raise some money for charity-last year's event raised over £13,000 for good causes.

So come along to Newton Abbot Racecourse on Sunday 18th October. The main races start at 09.15am and the Fun Run at 10.00am. Bring your family and friends and enjoy a family festival of running.

Pauline Beare, Women's Running Network

Words from the Rotary President

Rotary's motto is Service Before Self. To me this means involving ourselves in our community, giving more of our time than our money. But we certainly need your help.

This is the seventh time we have run this event and the third year we have been running it in partnership with Women's Running Network, with Pauline Beare, as Race Director. Pauline will take responsibility for everything to do with the races, allowing our Rotary Club to concentrate on raising money for charity. We are delighted with the way that this co-operation has made for a bigger and better event.

We rely heavily on Companies, such as the Herald Express, that sponsor this event, enabling us to give more money to our chosen charities. We rely upon the runners to enter and make this a worthwhile event. We rely upon other Rotary Clubs, the Police and many members of the general public to help with marshalling and manning the water stations.

The event gets more successful each year. Last October nearly 1,000 runners joined in. We also hosted the Devon County Marathon Championships for the fifth time.

It is also a financial success with, in six years, over 55,000 raised for our charities and a further £15,000 raised by runners for their own causes.

So please give us your support by running in one of our races, sponsoring someone who is running or volunteering to help. We will be delighted to hear from you and to see you at Newton Abbot Racecourse on the morning of Sunday, 18th October 2009.

Please ring Bob Gateshill on 01626 772471 if you want to get involved in any way.

If you live locally and would like to know more about Rotary, please ring me on 01626 870419.

Mike Goldsmith, President, Dartmoor Vale Rotary Club

Fun Run

An entirely safe approximately one mile run on the tarmac around Newton Abbot Racecourse. Start time 10.00 am. The run starts and finishes in front of the Public Stand and uses the tarmac ambulance track on the inside of the race track itself. We welcome entrants of any age, in fancy dress or otherwise. There will be an entrant limit of 1,200 so please enter early to avoid disappointment.
