Welcome Dartmoor Vale 2010

Sunday 17th October 2010 | Enter Now

I am pleased to announce that the Dartmoor Vale races are back at a new start and finish venue in association with Sibelco UK at the East Gold Works, Newton Road, Newton Abbot which is opposite the Newton Abbot Racecourse and next to Tesco Store.

The Marathon, Half Marathon and10K. race is now in it's eighth year and entrant numbers are expected to match last years record turnout.

We are now accepting entries from keen runners country-wide for the event on Sunday, October 17.

As last year, the event will not have a headline charity, but instead will be all-inclusive for national and local charities. Runners will have a choice of three races: the 26.2 mile full marathon, a 13.1 mile half marathon and a 10-kilometre road race. The route for the marathon and half marathon takes runners out on the roads of the Teign Valley to Chudleigh and back down the leafy country lanes alongside Ugbrooke Park.

In total we are looking to have an overall limit of 1,000 entrants. 200 for the marathon, 400 for the half marathon and 400 for the 10K.

This year, we do not have a headline charity but have told charities that they can register their own teams who will raise sponsorship and we will be fund matching.

Fund raising is an essential part of the Dartmoor Vale races, with runners totting up the coffers of charities each year. More than £75,000 has been raised for charities over seven years and a further £25,000 raised by runners for their own causes.

We will not be accepting entries for the three races on the day.

The closing date for entries is Friday October 8.

Words from the Rotary President

Rotary's motto is Service Before Self. To me this means involving ourselves in our community, giving more of our time than our money. But we certainly need your help.

We rely heavily on Companies, such as the Herald Express and Sibelco UK, that sponsor this event, enabling us to give more money to our chosen charities. We rely upon the runners to enter and make this a worthwhile event. We rely upon other Rotary Clubs, the Police and many members of the general public to help with marshalling and manning the water stations.

The event gets more successful each year. Last October nearly 1,000 runners joined in. We also hosted the Devon County Marathon Championships for the sixth time.

It is also a financial success with, in seven years, over £75,000 raised for our charities and a further £25,000 raised by runners for their own causes.

So please give us your support by running in one of our races, sponsoring someone who is running or volunteering to help. We will be delighted to hear from you and to see you at Sibelco, East Golds Works on the morning of Sunday, 17th October 2010.

Please ring Bob Gateshill on 01626 772471 if you want to get involved in any way.

If you live locally and would like to know more about Rotary, please ring me on 01626 870419.
